Our Company

Judd Hart began self-employment in lawn care and landscaping in 1978. He graduated from Brother Rice High School and continued his education in Oregon. Following his time there, Judd came home to Michigan to fulfill his passion for his entrepreneurial skills. He redesigned his lawn care company and focused on the tree care aspect. In 1981, with the love and support of his family and friends, Judd’s tree business began to boom and J. H. Hart Urban Forestry began evolving into the successful company it is today.

J. H. Hart Urban Forestry, now one of the largest full-service urban forestry companies in the state, has been providing residential, commercial, and municipal services to Southeast Michigan since 1988.

Our staff of 35-45 full-time employees, including Certified Arborists, and Licensed Pesticide Applicators, is dedicated to providing the highest quality tree and plant health care management available. J. H. Hart Urban Forestry provides a wide range of services, specializing in tree trimming and removals, stump grinding, integrated pest management, mulch production, and the disposal and recycling of wood products through grinders. Our facility consists of approximately 16,500 square feet of office, maintenance, and inside storage area, situated on just over six acres of land, and we own a fleet of 65 trucks.

J. H. Hart Urban Forestry is the contract City Forester for the city of Birmingham, Troy, Rochester Hills, Lathrup Village, and Royal Oak; and for the villages of Beverly Hills and Pleasant Ridge. As well as servicing municipalities, J. H. Hart also does residential and golf course tree care. In addition, they also perform utility line clearance for AT&T, and have done so since 1989.
In 1999, with the purchase of a horizontal grinder, the wood recycling division was established, and J. H. Hart’s yard was opened for outside tree services to deliver wood waste material. The mulch division was created in 2001 and now utilizes a Vermeer TG 7000 to process the mulch.

J. H. Hart Urban Forestry is a proud member of the Arboriculture Society of Michigan, Michigan Turfgrass Foundation, Michigan Green Industry Association. Judd Hart is a member of the international Society of Arboriculture.

METHODOLOGY

Our approach to service is both task specific and goal oriented. A request for service initiates an evaluation of the individual project and goals to be achieved. This includes a determination of job-site conditions, the appropriate crew and equipment for deployment, and an evaluation of any special precautions or notifications to be undertaken with respect to utilities, pedestrian and vehicular traffic, and other safety-related issues.

Projects are scheduled as required to meet the needs of our customers. Once scheduled, the customer is notified in advance of both the start date and anticipated date for completion. The crew foreman assigned to each job site is responsible for executing all facets of the work to ensure the successful completion of the project.
